"Morbid empathy." He experiences the last moments of those who die. People act as a filter to his power, in that the more people in between him and the dying person, the less likely it is that he will hear it. When there are other people nearby him (like in the same room as he is), he is far less likely to hear anything. However, the intensity of the death also has an impact. Unless he is within a few meters of the dying person, a person dying of old age in their sleep is extremely unlikely to register. In contrast, a person violently murdered by a close friend who knows that it is occurring is likely to come through extremely loud and clear no matter how many people are around him, occasionally even if it occurs halfway around the world. He usually experiences only the last few moments, but, in intense cases, he will experience longer.

While previously he was only able to hear the last moments of the deceased, as a Seal he now experiences the death scene exactly as the deceased would have seen it, with all of his senses. He also is no longer limited to the present with his powers. He has gained the ability to use his powers to see past death scenes, though there is a maximum time limit to how far before a person's death he can see, different for each specific death. This is easier to do when he is alone, but he can also bring a single person to watch the death from a third-person perspective as well, although this is particularly draining and can be done only once every few days.

As well, he can occasionally hear a small amount of future deaths. However, he can only hear them for a very brief moment and he cannot stop the death from occuring, in the same way as for seers.

He had always had his powers from the moment he was a child. However, he could not understand the voices at first, as he could not understand what they were saying. He eventually began to realize what it was that he was hearing and told his family. His mother didn’t believe him, but was quite worried about what sort of things her second son was “imagining.” His older brother, Carlos, who was only a couple of years older, believed him. Partly out of curiosity, Carlos helped his brother figure out about his power; it was Carlos, in fact, who realized the filtering effect of other people.

As both Pedro and Carlos grew up, Carlos made sure to keep the secret from their mother, knowing that the story was quite unbelievable—he himself might have begun to disbelieve Pedro if it weren’t for the fact that Pedro would often know the name of a murderer on the news long before the police had any evidence. Carlos also was the one to convince Pedro to not go to the police with the knowledge that he had of murders, justifying it to the more naïve Pedro partially by pressing upon him the possibility that his powers could mislead him, and Carlos continued to share a room with Pedro for as long as they lived in the same house (as leaving Pedro in a room alone would have resulted in leaving Pedro hearing the voices all night). Though Carlos could not be described as a particularly loving brother, Pedro grew quite attached to his older brother.

Despite his powers, he led a fairly normal life, doing fairly well socially if not academically. He was a very large dork, but his friendly nature ensured that he spent much of his time surrounded by friends and acquaintances who filtered out most of the effects of his powers. He still occasionally would hear them even in the midst of a classroom filled with students, but, since he tended to have a spastic attention span at the best of times, this usually went with little comment.

When his cousin Gabriela came to live with them, he was far more welcoming and friendly than his brother, as usual. However, he also was slightly wary—he had, one day, overheard the last moments of her father when he was murdered. He had not noticed it as being important the day he had heard it and so did not remember it exactly, but he was still afraid that he might let it slip. It was the first time he had actually met one of those related to a death he had overheard and he found that he didn’t want to tell her, thinking that she likely did not want to know. Over time, he began to forget about ever hearing it and would have difficulty remembering what had occurred.

He knew he was not smart enough for university—he felt his brother might have been, had the man bothered—and therefore decided to try to learn some kind of trade. He has yet to find his niche, though he is considering carpentry since he is pretty good with his hands, and therefore has spent the couple of years since he graduated gaining job experience at random jobs. Ironically, the latest job he has picked up is at a funeral parlour.

Though he has yet to suspect the existence of the end of the world, he has seen several signs of it. In particular, he has overheard several deaths related to the end of the world, such as several people caught in the Municipal Theatre and, more recently, the death of Tatiana. So he has heard several of the terms like Angel and Seal, but still has no idea of what they mean.

Doooooooooork. Really. He is very friendly and excitable and easily likened to a puppy. One gets the impression that there is not too much behind the smiling face, but most people don’t mind, because he’s kind and considerate of other people (when he notices). He is also easily distracted and sometimes spazzes out completely. However, in the rare cases he’s in a tense situation, he tries to act tougher and braver than he actually is. If things got really bad, like in a fight, it is possible that this act would completely shatter, but, up until then, he’d try to act like a hero.

He spends a lot of time around people, partly to help with his powers but mostly because he’s an extrovert. He also has the tendency to get random and sudden crushes on people (of either gender, though usually on females).

He’s pretty good with his hands and is pretty strong, so he likes making things for other people and often tries to be helpful in situations that would require such abilities.

Pedro runs more than he walks and talks louder than necessary. He is not particularly tall, but his small frame overflows with energy and his thin frame suggests awkward lankiness even if he does not have the height to really pull it off. His looks tend to run towards adorable rather than actually good-looking, although that might partially be his attitude towards life.

He dresses what could be tactfully called casually, not really putting much of an effort into his appearance. His short hair is easy to manage, but even that is beyond his attention span, so he tends to let it go every which way, except when his mother notices before he leaves the house.
